Modesto police identify man shot by officer

UPDATE: A woman who lives across the street from the northeast Modesto home where an officer-involved shooting took place Thursday said officers repeatedly told the man to "drop the knife" before hearing six to eight gunshots.
The man was identified this afternoon as Brian Reed, 41, of Modesto, according to officer Scott Nelson, a Modesto Police Department spokesman. Reed remains in critical condition in a Modesto hospital.
Nelson said Reed had a "locked blade pocket knife" during the confrontation.

He should of dropped the knife. Follow instruction given by the police and comply.
